The Florentine Museum and Institute of Prehistory operates in the fields of musealisation, research, and education.
Instructional devices and an audio guide are provided for the exhibit itineraries. Certain locations take into account the needs of visitors with visual and auditory difficulties and therefore make the visit accessible.
A guide service is also provided and, in particular, operators for training activities (for schools of all levels as well as for families), which are conducted throughout the year, including by means of winter and summer workshops.
The specialized reference library is open to the public. The collections on deposit are used by specialists for scientific and scholarly purposes, as well as in university and higher education courses. The archives of Paolo Graziosi, founder of the Museum, contains documents and correspondence of great importance for the history of Italian and European prehistoric archaeology. The Museum conducts and collaborates on research and excavations in Italy and abroad.
The scientific work is complemented by laboratories activities in the fields of archaeology, natural and biological sciences, and of archaeometry and diagnostics. It operates in the publishing field with specialized and educational texts.
